The core curriculum of MSPDE focuses on the fundamental and generic knowledge of new product development, regardless of the particular type of product being developed. This should give students a solid background to launch their careers in a broad areas of engineering after graduation.

This fundamental product development knowledge is then leveraged by the specialization in either technology or system area, providing students with further training in that particular direction. The current choices of AOS in technology and system are broad enough for students from various engineering disciplines and product interests.

Based on the needs of students and companies, we are interested in developing more discipline-specific product development specialization for various engineering fields. USC's School of Engineering is home to many strong engineering disciplines, such as aerospace, software, electronics, telecommunication, multimedia, biomedical, material, etc. This gives MSPDE a good base to offer more product development specializations in the future.
