The IMPACT
laboratory at USC is a joint research center of the Departments
of Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering (AME), Industrial and
System Engineering (ISE) and Computer Science (CS). It was
founded by Professor Stephen Lu in 1995, and is now the home
base for the Inspiring Technology research in the USA.
IMPACT stands
for Improving Manufacturing
Productivity with Advanced Collaboration Technology.
As the name suggests, its research focuses include computer-based
theories, methodologies, and tools to enable better collaborations
of engineering teams across the Internet on various product design
and manufacturing tasks. The Inspiring Technology is one of the
current research focuses at IMPACT.
The Inspiring
Technology research team at IMPACT at USC is currently conducting
an extensive research on innovative product development methodologies,
fractal/holistic
human systems modeling approaches, advanced sensor technologies,
and various energy applications.
The research
team at IMPACT at USC is led by Professor Stephen
Lu. Other team members include: Mr. (Bill)
Hongzhong Jia (PhD student) and Mr. Frank
Zhang (Undergraduate student).
